The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) purchases hearing aids for clients if needed for the successful completion of their Individual Plans for Employment. If the client has Medi-Cal, then DOR will ask them to use that service as a similar benefit to obtain one hearing aid while DOR purchases the other one.

The Hearing Foundation, legally registered as Ear of the Lion Foundation of California & Nevada Inc. is a non-profit, 501© 3 public benefit corporation. Formed it in 1982 by Northern California Lions Clubs.  It is an MD-4 sanctioned Lions program.  It has now expanded to clubs throughout California and Nevada.

LSH helps people who meet our guidelines to obtain critically needed hearing aids. If the applicant meets the guidelines, LSH will fund or share in the cost of providing hearing aids to the applicant, dispensed through a local hearing aid dispensary. In some cases, LSH may also cover copay costs for those with insurance.

The Travelers Protective Association of America Scholarship Trust for the Deaf and Near Deaf provides financial assistance to individuals of all ages who suffer deafness or hearing impairment. NOTE: Completed application must be returned by March 1st of each year. TPA Trustees review all applications on file in April notifies recipients in May, and checks are mailed after August 1st. Recipients may receive additional aid and must complete a new application each time they seek additional help.

If you are a veteran of the armed services and you think your hearing loss may be service-connected, you may be eligible for assistive technology devices and services through the Veteran’s Administration (VA). Your local VA office will be able to refer you to the appropriate VA medical facility for assistance.
